Create your restaurant's registers, define movement categories and record deposits and withdrawals during a shift.

Updated on October 8, 2026

A cash register is each cash drawer you operate with: the main register, the bar's, the terrace's. Each register has its own shifts, and each shift records who opened it, with how much, what it sold and how it closed. You can have one register or several, at no extra cost.

Create a register

  1. Go to Cash Management → Registers (/admin/cash-registers). Only administrators see this screen.
  2. Press Add Register.
  3. Type the Name, for example "Main Register", "Bar Register" or "Terrace Register".
  4. Leave Active status on and press Create Register.

The list shows each register with its Status and, under Current User, who has a shift open or No active shift.

Inactive registers cannot be used to open shifts, but they keep their whole history. That is the right way to retire a register you no longer use. A register with open sessions cannot be deleted: close the shifts first.

Shifts

Shifts are opened and closed from the point of sale, not from the admin panel. Each register allows one open shift at a time and each person a single shift. The details are in Open a shift and Close a shift. Closed shifts are reviewed under Reports → Shift summary.

Movement categories

Every cash deposit or withdrawal carries a category, so when you review the shift you know whether the money left to buy ice or for a bank deposit. They are managed at /admin/movement-categories, in two tabs:

  • Deposits: categories available when adding cash to the register, for example "Change float".
  • Withdrawals: categories when taking cash out, for example "Petty cash" or "Bank deposit".

Press Add Category, type the Name and save. A category that has already been used in movements cannot be deleted; turn off Active status and it stops appearing in the selector.

Create the categories before the first shift. If none exists, the cashier sees No categories available when trying a deposit or a withdrawal.

Deposits and withdrawals during a shift

From the point of sale, with the shift open, press the shift indicator (or the header menu on a tablet) to open the panel:

  1. Add Deposit records cash going into the drawer: enter the Amount, choose the Category and describe the Reason. Confirm with Add Deposit.
  2. Withdraw Cash records money going out: same form, confirm with Withdraw Cash.
  3. History shows this shift's movements and who made them.
  4. Payments shows the payments processed during the shift, with their method, tip and change.

Deposits and withdrawals go into the expected-cash formula at closing: Opening + Cash Sales + Cash Tips + Deposits - Withdrawals. That is why it pays to record every outflow as it happens, however small: an unrecorded withdrawal later shows up as a shortage.

Where to review it all

  • Reports → Shift summary: sales, payments and movements of every closed shift.
  • Reports → Cash reconciliation: expected versus counted per session.
  • Reports → Cash discrepancies: history of overages and shortages with their explanation.
